Solar Dharma: The Gift that Powers our Purpose

We’re thrilled to share an exciting new chapter in Menla’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and healing - we’re going solar! This year, we’ll be installing solar panels on the roof of our Lhasa building, which includes our beloved dining hall and kitchen.

This powerful system will offset over 50,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity annually - cutting our carbon footprint and significantly reducing our dependence on the energy grid. With NYSEG’s recent rate hikes nearly doubling our energy costs, this transition couldn’t come at a more critical time.

Over the lifetime of the system, we’re projected to save more than $350,000, money that can instead go toward what matters most:

Hosting more healing programs
Enhancing our campus and guest experience
Supporting Tibet House’s mission to preserve Tibetan culture and wisdom traditions

But we need your help to make this vision a reality. To fully fund the installation, we must raise $140,000 and now we’re turning to you to help us cross the finish line.

Why solar? What does 50,000 kWh of clean energy mean?

Every year, this system will help eliminate 21.4 tons of carbon emissions, the equivalent of:

Planting 350 trees, or
Driving 48,000 fewer miles, or
Preventing the burning of 22,000 pounds of coal
