UPDATE! We were able to secure $25,000 for the feasibility study for this trail from Midway TAP Tax. This is a huge win for us as we were denied grant funding previously from a separate planning grant (there are a lot of amazing projects being planned around the State of Utah!) We are leveraging this $25k to apply for ORI (Outdoor Recreation Initiative) funds to be able to complete any cultural clearances studies necessary, which have a ~$40k price tag. In addition to the $25k, WTF is on the hook for $1,000 in matching funds and we're almost there!

The Wasatch Trails Foundation is seeking funding to support the planning of a 12–15 mile connector trail that would link the north and south ends of Heber Valley — from Pine Creek Canyon or the Wasatch Mountain State Park Visitors Center to the Soldier Hollow Complex near Cascade Springs Drive. This trail would serve as a key segment in our growing regional trail system, offering multi-use, backcountry trail access through scenic and currently underutilized areas. It would also create future opportunities to connect west-side neighborhoods into the broader backcountry network.

This trail also marks the first phase of the Wasatch Trails Foundation’s long-term vision known as the Heber Halo — a backcountry trail system designed to encircle the entire Heber Valley. The goal of this initiative is to make trail access easier and more consistent, so that no matter where you live in the valley, you’re always have access to a trailhead. By eventually linking neighborhoods, communities, and outdoor destinations through a continuous loop, the Heber Halo will enhance recreation, access to outdoor spaces, and regional connectivity. This initial connector trail lays the groundwork for that vision and represents a critical first step toward building a more accessible and connected trail system for all.
