The Afghan-American Community Organization (AACO) began in 2015 as a grassroots conference — a safe space for the Afghan diaspora to connect, heal, and inspire change.
Today, AACO has grown into a national nonprofit serving Afghan communities through four pillars:

Across Afghanistan and in the diaspora, kites have always symbolized freedom, resilience, and hope.
They rise because someone is holding the string, steadying, uplifting, and guiding them toward the sky.

Your support helps Afghan-American students soar and succeed, no matter the winds they face.

Since 2018, AACO has provided scholarships to Afghan-American students with financial need and a passion for community impact.
In 2023, we launched the Sophia & Sabrina Scholarship to honor our founders and celebrate Afghan women leading in education and service.

To date, our program has awarded over $350,000 to more than 70 Afghan students pursuing vocational, undergraduate, and graduate degrees — making it the only national scholarship fund dedicated to Afghan-American students.

How It Works

Each year, students across the country apply through a rigorous and competitive process that includes essays, blind reviews, and interviews.

In 2025, AACO awarded $30,000 to seven outstanding students, each receiving between $2,500 and $5,000 to pursue their educational goals.

Final selections are based on financial need, academic promise, and commitment to the Afghan-American community.
