In 1836, the people of Mansfield made a choice. When a small group attempted to silence local abolitionists, many members of our community responded by standing together against slavery. In the days that followed, more than 200 people joined the Mansfield Anti-Slavery Society, giving our small town one of the largest anti-slavery society memberships in Massachusetts.

Today, that same spirit inspires the work of The Road to Diversity and Understanding (TRDU). On Saturday, October 17, 2026, we invite you to join us in supporting Abolition Day 2026 on Mansfield’s South Common. This annual event commemorates Mansfield’s abolitionist history while bringing our community together to learn, connect, celebrate, and imagine what is possible when we care for one another.
