Isabel’s Story:

The 18th-century historical adventure is based on the true story of South American aristocrat Isabel Grameson Godin living in Andean Colonial Peru, now Ecuador. She has just lost her fourth and oldest child to smallpox when she receives news that her French husband, Jean Godin, absent for 20 years and unable to join her because of political unrest, has made arrangements to meet her in French Guiana. Against family wishes, she decides to cross the Amazon. Joined by her two brothers (Juan and Antonio), her young nephew (Martin), her personal African bondservant (Joaquin), a French physician (Doctor Rocha), and a host of Indian guides, porters, and servants, Isabel sets off on the months’ long trek.Disaster escalates. The guides and porters desert them. They become stranded on ariver’s sandbar. Then Doctor Rocha, under the ruse of going for help in their only canoe, decides not to return -- leaving Joaquin frantic, stranded, and unable to solicit a rescue. Days pass. Isabel, her brothers, and nephew set out through the jungle to look for help. When Joaquin finally makes his way back on a rescue attempt, it is too late. In the absence of the family, and clear signs of suffering lead him to believe all have perished. After struggling in the forest, Isabel’s family dies, leaving her on death’s door. She manages to survive and wanders the forest for a month before she is rescued by tribesmen. With the help of priests and mission station locals, she makes it to the port of Loreto where she is reunited with her father. They set sail together and soon after, she is finally reunited with her husband at the mouth of the Amazon River, over 5,000 miles away from home.

The Production:
We are creating an immersive experience. The sounds are French Baroque, Spanish
classical, panpipe, Amazonian tribal, African percussion, and Nature fused in a unique
soundscape that is not reminiscent of any existing Broadway experience.
