Democracy work is high stakes, high pressure, and increasingly traumatic – and we’re losing our best people.

“My depression has been extremely bad. The feeling of letting the country down has been weighing on me. The frustration of the current state of US politics has me increasingly depressed. I have also had an increased amount of anxiety about the state of the world.” - 2024 Minnesota staffer

If you’ve ever worked on a political campaign, you know just how hard it can be: the burnout, the lack of sleep, the insurmountable goals, low pay, long days and the weight of democracy on your shoulders.

We’ve all paid our dues and the next generation has to as well, but that doesn’t mean we can’t treat staff even just a little bit better than was done to us. Just like parents and grandparents that hope future generations are better off than they were - senior or former campaign staff have the chance to turn hope into action.

If you believe that our workforce deserves better care and support - you’re invited to Adopt-A-Staffer.

Yep, that's right - Mind the Movement is inviting you to channel your inner Sally Struthers and adopt a staffer transitioning off the 2026 races. For just $3 per day - or $1,000 all at once - you can provide a year of free individual therapy to one of our subsidy recipients. Funds are paid directly to a licensed mental health practitioner who will be selected by the recipient with the support of our Clinical Fellow.

If you’ve ever wanted to pay it forward in honor of a great boss or mentor who took you under their wing, OR you wanted to avenge the harm done by a manager on a previous campaign - here is a tangible thing to do.

"It's been incredibly beneficial. Knowing that I can help care for myself without having it cost so much has meant everything to me this year -the pressure it takes off of me has been immense. I don't need to triage my needs or pick what I can or cannot afford. I am incredibly thankful to Mind the Movement for this program and their help." - 2026 subsidy recipient

All contributions to Mind the Movement are 100% tax deductible. Please don’t wait until the end of the year to give: our workers are rolling off campaigns in just over a month.

Sadly, we probably won’t be able to send you a cute photo with their story (we follow strict confidentiality guidelines), but we will share lots of other meaningful updates on how our program is going.

Adopt your staffer today!

Even if you’ve never worked on a campaign, but know that their work is crucial to our democracy - you’re invited to Adopt a Staffer or make another contribution that feels meaningful to use. DAF funds, checks and corporate donations are accepted.
