ABOUT THE FUND
The Black Girls, Femmes and Women's Fund of the Americas was created in 2020 by Black Latinx Women in the service of Black Latinx women throughout the Americas. This fund offers financial assistance by giving money directly to Black Latin womxn, femmes and girls who are experiencing severe financial need across the region, especially due to the COVID19 pandemic and systemic injustices.
We acknowledge that Black womxn’s economic struggles are not necessarily new. Black girls. femmes and women from Latin America are leading movements and creating systemic change, but they need emergency financial support both locally and internationally. Many transnational Black families that have women head of households are economically hurting because an important source of their income has been impacted by COVID-19 and the cascading injustices impacting Black people throughout the region.
Either in Brazil, Colombia, United States, or Panama, Black Latina girls and women are organizing in their local communities in the fight against several oppressive forms of state violence, including economic insecurity, gender-based violence, unequal access to health care systems, police brutality, and more. We call on you to give radically and help us on the fight against these systems by funding Black Latinxs with small grants that will allow them to address the priorities and perspectives of their local communities in Latin America and the Caribbean.
This fund was created by AfroResistance, an organization led by Black women from Latin America and the Caribbean. The Black Girls, Femmes and Women's Fund of the Americas is part of our mission of educating and organizing for human rights, democracy, and racial justice throughout the Americas.
