Alamance CAN! (Community Alleviating Needs) is a multi-pronged initiative led by United Way of Alamance County to address urgent community needs, with a primary focus on food insecurity and other emergency assistance in Alamance County, North Carolina. This effort ensures that United Way can respond quickly and effectively as local needs arise.

Emergency Assistance Fund

The Alamance CAN! Emergency Assistance Fund provides year-round support to local nonprofit organizations working to address food insecurity and other urgent needs in our community. Monetary donations are accepted on an ongoing basis and are used where the need is greatest.

Donations designated for food security are used to purchase food, nonperishable goods, grocery store gift cards, and essential supplies as requested by local food pantries and nonprofit food providers based on identified needs. Requests for assistance are accepted only from local nonprofit organizations. United Way does not accept requests from individual community members.

Annual Canned Food Drive

Alamance CAN! also serves as the theme for United Way of Alamance County’s annual countywide food drive, which benefits local food pantries and nonprofit food providers. This year’s drive will be held in conjunction with Hunger Action Day in September 2026. Additional details will be shared via the Community Council newsletter and on our social media pages.
