Our founder, Shrawan Nepali, opened the doors to Ama Ghar in 2001 with a dream to provide a loving home, education and lifelong familial ties for at-risk youth in Nepal. Over the past 24 years, we have watched over 100 children pass through Ama Ghar's doors and mature into productive, self-supporting young adults.

One of these children is Rekha, who arrived at Ama Ghar at the age of 4. Raised by her grandmother in the remote Humla District of Nepal, Rekha only spoke their local dialect. She arrived at Ama Ghar unable to communicate with anyone around her, but quickly learned both Nepali and English at school. Today, Rekha keeps busy with her various interests and talents. Above everything, she loves to read. Not only does she read a lot independently, but she takes responsibility for getting her sisters to read more and for keeping our library in order. Rekha loves writing stories and poems, sharing her creativity through her words. She is also a lovely artist who has a file full of certificates for placing in Tae Kwan Do, singing and Scouts.

Rekha’s undeniable talents may have stayed dormant if not given the opportunity of an education - and a real childhood - that Ama Ghar provided. She hopes to continue her studies to find a career in journalism or teaching - and we’re sure she can do anything she sets her mind to!

Today, there is an ever increasing need to take in more at-risk children in Nepal, and we must rally the resources to meet that need. We need your support more than ever. Here’s what your continued support can do:

$2,000 ($167/mo.) – Support one young child (in Class 10 or below) for an entire year, including food, medical care, counseling and school fees. You will receive updates about that child’s activities twice a year so you can stay connected.
$1,000 ($83/mo.) – Provide textbooks for one year for all elementary school age students or one computer for our computer lab.
$500 ($42/mo.) – Treat the kids to one all-day outing, including bus rentals and meals
$250 – Pay for all meals for four children for one month.
$100 – Cover the cost for art supplies and craft materials for school projects for one month.
