Join us on August 5th for an evening of readings and conversations with Bainbridge Island author Lance Garland, Navy veteran, Seattle firefighter, and nature adventurer. Hosted by Dominique Cantwell, Lance will read from and discuss his acclaimed debut memoir, Out There: Dispatches from My Personal Wilderness. This is a story of growing up gay in spaces that historically excluded people like him, from the military during "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" to the firehouse, and finding healing in the wild landscapes of the Pacific Northwest. His writing has appeared in Outside, Backpacker, and Orion, and the book has been praised as "fiercely hopeful, quietly subversive, and unapologetically queer." Come for a powerful reading, stay for the conversation. Tickets begin at $30 with the option to add a copy of Lance's book to be signed after the event. There are also a limited amount of tickets to a small gathering with Lance after the event. Proceeds directly benefit Bainbridge Community Foundation's IDEAS (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Social Justice) Fund.

Lobby doors open at 5pm with concessions available from BPA. The event begins promptly at 6pm and the reception after begins at approximately 7:30pm.
