About Pt. Anindo Chatterjee

Anindo Chatterjee was born in 1953 into a musically inclined Kolkata family and began learning tabla at age five under the influence of his uncle, Biswanath Chatterjee. After initial training with Ustad Afaq Hussain Khan of the Lucknow gharana, he studied under the renowned Jnan Prakash Ghosh for three decades, developing crystal clear rhythms and exceptional dexterity that would define his career. His prodigious talent emerged early when he won the prestigious President's Award for 'Best Young Tabla Player' at just 17 years old.

Throughout his illustrious career, Chatterjee has accompanied India's most prominent classical musicians, including sitarists Pandit Ravi Shankar, Nikhil Banerjee, and Imrat Khan, sarodists Amjad Ali Khan and Buddhadev Das Gupta, santoor player Shivkumar Sharma, and flautist Hariprasad Chaurasia. His performances have graced the most prestigious venues worldwide, including a solo tabla performance at the House of Commons in 1990 and a memorable performance at Rashtrapati Bhavan during President Barack Obama's first visit to India in 2010. His contributions to Indian classical music were formally recognized with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2002.

Beyond his performing career, Chatterjee has dedicated himself to preserving and teaching the art of tabla for future generations. He founded the Anindo Chatterjee Institute of Tabla in Washington in 2010 as a non-profit organization focused on public education, and established the Anindo Chatterjee School of Tabla in New York, which uses innovative platforms, including live streaming classes and online archives, to reach students around the world.

About Suhail Yusuf Khan

Suhail, a devoted Sarangi player has been hailed as a child prodigy in the world of Indian Classical music. Continuing in the family tradition, Suhail draws from a rich musical heritage and is an eighth-generation Sarangi player. A descendant of the Moradabad-Rampur and Senia Gharana of MIYAAN TANSEN, he is the grandson of renowned Sarangi legend, Padmabhushan and Padmashree recipient, USTAD SABRI KHAN, and nephew of the Sarangi genius, USTAD KAMAL SABRI.

At the age of seven Suhail started learning to play the Sarangi under the tutelage of his Uncle and Grandfather, in the ‘Guru-Shishya Parampara’ which is the Traditional Indian Schooling method of imparting of knowledge from the Guru “teacher” to the Shishya “student’ . Suhail gave his first live performance at the age of 11, with his Grandfather and Uncle. Since then he has performed extensively in India & abroad covering France, Belgium, Italy, all of Scandinavia, Switzerland, South Africa, Nepal, Pakistan, Maldives, Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, Malayasia, Sri Lanka; the Middle East and has toured the UK extensively.

Suhail is a multifaceted artiste who is also a music composer; singer & song writer. His versatility extends to varied genres of music from Indian Classical Music to contemporary Rock Fusion; Jazz Fusion ; World Music; Folk Music Fusion. The British Council, New Delhi has Suhail as a Cultural Ambassador from India to the UK. He also has the honour of being a graded musician with All India Radio, the Indian public radio broadcaster.

About Souryadeep Bhattacharyya

Souryadeep Bhattacharyya is an accomplished sarod artist whose music is characterized by emotional depth, warmth, and a personal connection with his audience. A disciple of the Maihar Gharana under Pt. Alok Lahiri and Sri Abhisek Lahiri are empaneled artists with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and permanent artists for All India Radio. His unique artistic identity was forged through the parallel pursuit of classical music and chemical engineering, a balance that reinforces his commitment to musical authenticity over mere technical display. Now based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Souryadeep performs globally at prestigious venues such as Lincoln Center, guided by the philosophy that music must move the heart to be truly successful.

About Vishan Menon

Vishan Menon has been studying tabla since 2009. He began his musical journey as a student of Shri. Satish Tare is blessed to continue his study of tabla as a disciple of Pandit Anindo Chatterjee, renowned maestro of the Farrukabad Gharana. Vishan has also received training in accompaniment from the renowned Maihar gharana sitarist, Pt. Partha Chatterjee. When he isn’t playing tabla, Vishan works as a software engineer in the cybersecurity space.

Originally started by a small group of volunteers, who raised money (in Dollars) and paid artists in India to hold virtual Zoom concerts for a small audience in the US. Encouraged by feedback from the local community, a small group of volunteers formally incorporated Sangeethaamsha as a 501(c)(3) non-profit in 2022.

Our goal now is to nurture, teach, produce, or provide access to a variety of arts experiences encompassing the visual, media, or performing arts, with particular intent to promote the rich heritage of the Classical Hindustani music to the young members of the community as well as the mainstream population in the U.S. Founded and operated by a group of volunteers from Silicon Valley, CA and the greater San Francisco area,

Our performances are typically organized in the “Baithak” style, which provides an intimate exchange of experience between the artist and the audience.

This style elevates appreciation of the music, accelerates learning, and importantly, helps interpret the artist’s musical expression.

We also hold workshops and invite visiting guests, teachers, and artists to perform in intimate venues.
