The Legacy Tea: Ten Years of Sisterhood, Remembrance & Giving

Ten years ago, this started in my cousin's living room. No stage, no program — just a handful of women, a pot of tea, and a wish to hold space for each other for one afternoon.

I didn't know it would still be happening a decade later, or that it would become something that could actually change what happens to a woman in the hardest season of her life.

Today, The Legacy Tea brings together 30–40 women each fall for an afternoon of tea, remembrance, and generosity. Every dollar raised goes somewhere specific: this year, it will directly support two women of color navigating a breast cancer diagnosis — one 35 and younger, one 35 and older — covering emergency costs that insurance doesn't. Transportation to treatment. Groceries during a hospital stay. A bill that can't wait, in a season when nothing else can wait either.

This is also our 10th anniversary, and this year we're introducing the Jefrina Johnson Trailblazer Award, named in memory of my sister, presented annually to a woman who champions the health of Black women in our community.

Join us Saturday, October 24, 2026, 2:00–5:00 PM at Pittsburgh Yards in Atlanta, GA — shades of pink, tea attire, and a room full of women who show up for each other.

This has always doubled as a celebration of my birthday, too — the tea falls in my birthday month every year. Ten years of doing this has taught me that the best gift is watching a room full of women show up for each other — so if you're looking for a way to celebrate with me, a ticket or a donation is exactly that.

A $30 ticket gets you a seat. A donation of any size goes straight to a woman who needs it this year. And if your organization wants to stand with us at a deeper level, sponsorships are available — including recognition during the Trailblazer Award presentation.
