Help to Fill a Critical Gap in the Child Welfare System

The vast majority of families who enter the child welfare system are dealing with poverty, and the presence or lack thereof of basic household necessities can often make a significant difference in whether the families path forward heads in a direction of stability or dysfunction. There are parents in our community who, because of a job loss, mental illness, medical emergencies, the substantial increase in the cost of living, lack of relational support, or other factors have reached a point of financial crisis. They find their families facing eviction, homelessness, hunger, inadequate clothing, and a shortage of other basic necessities. Although child welfare workers are able to help families access things such as subsidized day care, medical assistance, and counseling, the departments do not have the funding in their budgets to cover the cost of things like diapers, infant formula, clothing, shoes, food, hygiene products, and cleaning supplies. Without support from the community, families are left without these crucial items, leaving them at risk of spiraling downward and leaving them at higher risk of the children needing to enter the foster care system. Without these essentials, the path to positive outcomes becomes significantly more difficult for vulnerable children.

Our Strategic Vision for Stability

Plesion is launching this fundraising initiative to allow us to have more ways to bridge the gap for families. Our goal is to equip families with the tangible tools they need to succeed. Your financial support will be used for one or more of the following:

Expanding our programming to offer body safety awareness education for youth in elementary, middle, and high schools.
Helping to secure a dedicated storage location. This will allow us to keep more donations on-hand for distribution and will allow for teams of volunteers to assist with sorting and preparing the donations for delivery to the recipients.
Meeting emergency needs when they arise.
Funding all other areas of greatest financial need, including both operational and service needs

The Direct Result of Your Investment

Every contribution serves as a direct investment in a child's future. By removing some of the financial barriers being experienced by children and families, we allow them to focus on emotional healing and long-term growth rather than immediate survival. Your contribution helps to ensure that no child is removed from a loving home simply due to a lack of physical resources.

Join Our Community of Supporters

Plesion has already supported hundreds of families, but the need continues to grow. We invite you to join us in this investment to secure the well-being of the children in our community.
