A wheelchair doesn't magically move from one person's garage to another person's home.

Every day, healthcare providers, social workers, therapists, and nonprofit partners refer individuals to Assist ME who need mobility equipment to remain safe, independent, and active in their communities.

Many of the wheelchairs, walkers, hospital beds, and other mobility devices we provide are generously donated. But turning those donations into life-changing support takes more than equipment alone.

Assist ME remains more 99% volunteer-powered. As demand continues to grow for mobility devices, so does the need for the technology, volunteer support, equipment purchases, and operational capacity required to connect donated mobility equipment with the children and adults who need it most.

Your support helps ensure we have the resources needed to respond quickly, purchase highly depleted equipment when equipment donations fall short, strengthen our volunteer infrastructure, expand community partnerships and outreach, and continue growing our impact throughout the region.

As a 99% volunteer-powered organization, Assist ME works hard to maximize every dollar invested in our mission. Community support helps us purchase highly depleted equipment when donations cannot meet demand, strengthen the systems and technology needed to manage referrals and inventory, and build the capacity required to serve a growing number of recipients and healthcare partners.

Sometimes, saying "yes" means meeting a need that cannot be filled through donated equipment alone. This year, donor support helped secure a $5,500 specialty device for a local school, allowing a 350-pound, 10-year-old child with a rare disorder to attend school safely while also obtaining a wheelchair for use at home.

Our goal is simple: when a school nurse, healthcare provider, social worker, caregiver, or individual reaches out for help, we want to have the equipment, resources, and capacity needed to respond.

With a community goal of $5,000 for Giving Tuesday 2026, we can continue expanding access to mobility equipment while increasing our impact throughout the region.
