Atrium School's elementary team, GENIUS BLUE GIRAFFES, won 1st place at the Massachusetts Destination Imagination (DI) state tournament and has qualified to attend the Global Finals in Kansas City, MO!

This year, the 5th graders have been hard at work in the Fine Arts category. They were challenged to bring a work of visual art to life by creating and presenting a story inspired by the work. The Genius Blue Giraffes wrote, produced, and performed an original story inspired by Edvard Munch's The Scream which included a puppet opera, kinetic art, handmade props and scenery, and much more!

While their creativity, engineering, and storytelling skills were showcased in their final presentation, it was their teamwork, collaboration, and problem-solving behind the scenes that helped paved their way to victory. They won 1st place out of 14 teams in the elementary division!

The Genius Blue Giraffes are incredibly proud and honored to represent Massachusetts and Atrium School at the DI Global Finals in late May 2024 — we hope to get them there but need your support!

The team is thrilled about qualifying for Globals but the costs to attend are not small. Though DI is a non-profit, the entry fee is not small due to the costs of putting on the event. Every little bit helps — we are grateful for your generosity!

What is Destination Imagination?

Destination Imagination (DI) is a non-profit educational program that fosters creativity, innovation, and teamwork among students from elementary school through university level. It offers a variety of challenges across different disciplines such as STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), fine arts, service learning, and more.

Teams of students work together to solve these challenges, which require critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and presentation skills. They must devise creative solutions to open-ended problems, often incorporating elements of theater, engineering, art, and storytelling.

The culmination of the DI program is the Global Finals, an international competition where top-performing teams from around the world gather to showcase their solutions to the challenges they've tackled throughout the year.
