Hey everyone! My name is Oscar Carlos Jr. and I am a returning second-year missionary. This year I will be serving as the rider team leader for the Wisconsin team. I am very excited to be a missionary again for Biking for Babies and help renew a culture of life.

I am the oldest of four brothers and currently live in Lubbock, Texas. My brothers are a big reason for “why” I joined this mission. My third youngest brother is Carlosemanuel, he is 10 years old and has Down’s Syndrome. He is the most expressive, joyful, and energetic person I’ve ever met; he has truly changed my and my family’s lives and I cannot imagine not having him in my life. When my mom was pregnant with him, however, during a routine ultrasound/check-up, the doctors realized the baby had Down’s Syndrome. Afterwards, the doctor took my parents to a separate room and asked them how they wanted to proceed with the pregnancy – insinuating abortion as an option given the complications and struggles Down’s Syndrome could bring. My parents, without hesitation, responded “we’re having the baby, how else would we proceed?”. I am a part of this mission because I believe every baby has the right to life; I believe in the sanctity and dignity of every human life and I want to help support these women and their unborn. Every human life, born or unborn, is beautifully and wonderfully made by God. He intentionally formed you, and every life, in His image. Everyone is a necessary part of His plan.

As missionaries, we partner with and support pregnancy resource centers nationwide by raising funds and awareness. These centers provide vital services for pregnant mothers in need, to ensure they and their babies are well cared for and they have a chance at life. All contributions go to supporting these centers and forming young adults into missionary disciples of Jesus Christ.

Here are some of the services and materials pregnancy resource centers freely provide to women in need to help guide you in discerning your gift and the impact it can have:

• Free counseling, pregnancy testing, STI testing, abortion pill reversal, prenatal care, and ultrasounds. Ultrasounds are often a life-changing, life-saving moment for mothers in crisis. (One ultrasound costs about $500.)
• Free items to support families after children are born, including diapers, cribs, formula, food, car seats, etc. (One case of diapers costs about $40. One car seat costs about $250.)
• Free parenting classes, support groups, Project Rachel retreats, adoption referrals, and referrals for many other needs.
