The West Region Wildfire Council (WRWC) was founded with a mission to help communities, watersheds, and forests across Colorado’s Western Slope become more resilient to the growing threat of wildfires. As wildfire seasons grow longer and more intense, WRWC is here to support both individual landowners and entire communities in reducing wildfire risks and enhancing their preparedness.

Operating across six counties—Delta, Gunnison, Hinsdale, Montrose, Ouray, and San Miguel—WRWC provides education, technical assistance, and funding to help landowners manage hazardous fuels, create defensible space, harden their homes, and build community-wide wildfire readiness. Our approach is collaborative, ensuring that we work with local fire departments, government agencies, conservation groups, and other stakeholders to develop lasting solutions.

Through programs like Wildfire Ready Home, WRWC has empowered homeowners to take proactive steps in protecting their properties. Our Vegetation Management Program helps landowners manage hazardous vegetation, and we are currently working on treating 811 acres across 133 projects throughout our six counties. Additionally, we’ve received 161 site visit requests from landowners eager to learn how they can make their properties more wildfire resilient.
