We are a food recovery organization but not a traditional one. We go to the source of surplus produce – orchards, backyards, farms, farmers markets and grocers – to glean the excess and then transport it to pantries, shelters and other organizations who feed our food-insecure neighbors.

Our mission to reduce food waste and hunger by connecting surplus produce to food insecurity in local communities remains grassroots in nature, but our impact continues to grow throughout the county. In addition to our flagship backyard gleaning program, CropSwap, we coordinate thousands of volunteers through our Market Share program where we collect unsold produce from farms, farmers markets and grocery stores.

Our harvests are equivalent to 900,000 meals, providing access to fresh produce for thousands of food-insecure individuals. Together we can raise $35,000 to provide whole, nutrient rich fruit and vegetables to the 1 in 4 San Diegans struggling with hunger.
