Sunshine Gospel Ministries' Capital Campaign

WHO: Sunshine Gospel Ministries (SGM) is a 501(c)(3) faith-based nonprofit organization that, for 120 years, has supported underserved, under-resourced communities throughout Chicago. In 2025 SGM will begin the construction of the Sunshine Community Center in the Washington Park neighborhood, expanding services in this community, enhancing our Woodlawn community services, and creating opportunities for other neighboring communities. This $36.9 million project has been driven by a dedicated community of supporters, including youth, seniors, families, volunteers, local leaders, schools, partner organizations and donors. This development project brings together individuals who believe in the power of education, mentorship, faith, and discipleship, and who are committed to creating sustainable opportunities that transform lives.

WHAT: Sunshine Gospel Ministries' Capital Campaign is a transformative Call to Action aimed at expanding our capacity to serve youth, seniors, families, and the broader community. Through this Campaign, we will enhance our facilities, increase program accessibility, broaden impact, and create sustainable spaces for program services. By investing in critical infrastructure and resources, we will deepen our impact and ensure long-term stability for the communities we serve.

WHEN: The time is NOW! Sunshine's Capital Campaign to build the Sunshine Community Center is currently underway, with fundraising efforts and planning in progress. SGM has over 75% of funds secured and is now embarking upon the final stretch to close the funding gap of $8M to ensure both the completion of the structure and safeguard SGM from any long-term debt that could impact program services. As we celebrate the achievement of securing $28.9 million of this Campaign, we press earnestly to close the gap by the fourth quarter of this year, 2025.

WHERE: SGM has been in the Woodlawn community for over 20 years and has (1) rehabbed two blocks of previously abandoned crime infested property; (2) purchased rental properties; (3) created, at the request of the community, a cafe'/restaurant space and an entrepreneur program to train and equip local residents and under-resourced entrepreneurs; and (4) actively engaged in a City of Chicago supported action that is advancing both housing equity and revitalization for Woodlawn and Washington Park residents. The Sunshine Community Center will place our new headquarters in the Washington Park community, while benefiting all our surrounding communities.

WHY: Our mission is to restore hope, strengthen family foundations, and revitalize communities through holistic, faith-driven support. We believe in the power of community, the strength of shared values, and the transformative potential of investing in people. By creating more dedicated spaces for programming and community activities, the Center will afford Sunshine Gospel Ministries the opportunity to serve more individuals, strengthen community connections, and provide essential resources that empower people to thrive and build social, health and economic vitality within their own communities.
