At the end of the evening, we want everyone to take a photo of their finished dessert and share it on social media. Tag @TPCSinc and use #BakingADifference so we can celebrate the community that came together to support women and families. We also invite participants to send their favorite photos to development@tpcsinc.org to be featured in our newsletters and on other platforms.

Throughout the rest of National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, we will feature photos from our Baking a Difference community and recognize those who showed up for TPCS and the families we serve.

About Turning Point Community Services

TPCS is committed to being a safe stop on the way home. Our mission is to positively impact the lives of women and their families experiencing homelessness and abuse through innovative programs and resources that support independence, nurture interpersonal growth, and prepare them for a more prosperous future. This mission is at the heart of everything we do.

TPCS provides more than shelter. We provide wraparound support designed to help women and families address the challenges they are facing while building the skills, stability, and confidence needed for the future. Our services include emergency housing, case management, clinical and supportive services, housing assistance, and workshops focused on practical life skills such as job readiness, financial literacy, and parenting. For one mother, that may mean preparing for a job interview. For another, it may mean learning how to create and manage a household budget, receiving clinical support, navigating housing opportunities, strengthening parenting skills, or simply having someone walk alongside her when the next step feels overwhelming. We meet families where they are and support them as they work toward where they want to be.

A Community at a Crossroads

For a woman experiencing homelessness, finding a safe place to stay is an important first step, but it is only the beginning. TPCS’s vision is to be a comprehensive solution that boldly addresses all of the challenges faced by women experiencing homelessness.

At Turning Point Community Services, we see every day how much courage it takes for a mother and her family to face those challenges while they rebuild their lives from homelessness and abuse. A mother may be working toward permanent housing, looking for employment, managing a limited budget, addressing trauma, navigating her children’s needs, or simply trying to create a sense of normalcy for her family after a period of tremendous uncertainty. Homelessness is rarely caused by one circumstance and it cannot be solved by one service alone.

Governmental funding provides TPCS critical support for families, but those resources do not always last as long as a family’s journey with us does. When funding runs out before a family has secured permanent stability, a mother can be faced with an impossible choice—leave a safe environment before she is ready or lose access to the support that has helped her move forward. This is where our community can make a difference.

That is why TPCS created the Charity Care Fund. The Charity Care Fund allows TPCS to provide families with additional time and support when governmental funding runs out but the family still needs a safe place to stay and the opportunity to continue working toward stability. It is a bridge. It gives a mother the chance to keep working toward permanent housing rather than being forced to take a step backward. It gives her children additional time in a safe and supportive environment. And it gives TPCS the ability to say, “We are not finished helping you yet.”
