The Bark Park is an important part of our community.

The first off-leash dog park in Hawai'i, Bark Park remains a rare find: A large fenced in dog park, with shady trees, a dozen places to sit, and a doggie water fountain. While free and open to the public, Bark Park has been privately operated on individual donations and maintained by volunteers for nearly three decades.

Bark Park was founded in 1997 by Clark Hatch, a local businessman, philanthropist, and dog lover who negotiated with the state to create a place for dogs (and their humans) to run, play, and socialize. Learn more.

Our annual operating costs include:

land lease from the state
water bill
insurance
plumbing, repairs, and maintenance (sprinkler system, fence, benches, etc)
lawn and tree care
a whole lot of poop bags
and more

At a minimum these costs are approximately $12,000 a year, not taking into account any proactive improvements we might all like to see at the park.
