BASIN ARTS' CAPITAL CAMPAIGN - HELP US "MEET OUR MATCH"

This Fall, Basin Arts begins its tenth year as an organization with a significant milestone: relocation to 126 South Buchanan Street, a 10,000-square-foot warehouse intentionally redeveloped into a purpose-built cultural arts facility. This new home is made possible through a strategic partnership with the Lafayette Public Trust Financing Authority (LPTFA), which has invested over $1 million to convert the formerly vacant structure into a center for creativity, collaboration, and community engagement.

In April 2025, Basin Arts launched a Capital Campaign to raise $150,000 by the end of 2026. These funds will be used to fully outfit our new, purpose-built facility with essential equipment, infrastructure, and digital technology for artist studios, classrooms, performance spaces, and galleries. This investment will play a critical role in helping Basin Arts realize the full potential of its new home—expanding programming, deepening community access, and ensuring long-term organizational sustainability in support of Lafayette’s creative future.

Last month, Basin Arts was awarded a $25,000 Matching Grant from the Stuller Family Foundation as part of our Capital Campaign. With these funds, Basin Arts will be over halfway towards our Capital Campaign goal!

Basin Arts is an arts incubator — Lafayette’s Container for Creativity — dedicated to supporting artists in building sustainable creative practices. We aim to increase access to professional contemporary arts experiences while fostering meaningful connections between artists and the broader community.

Since its founding in 2016, Basin Arts has paid nearly $700,000 directly to local artists for creative work, affirming our commitment to building a sustainable artistic economy in Louisiana. We have supported over 100 artists-in-residence—including visual artists, dancers, and multidisciplinary creatives—and engaged more than 80 teaching artists to lead visual art and dance classes. Our gallery has hosted 65 exhibitions, and we have presented over 50 live dance performances and community programs. Through our movement classes, we have provided arts education to over 5,000 youth and adults, creating accessible entry points for creative exploration across our region.

Artists connected with Basin Arts go on to make a broad impact locally, regionally, and nationally. Alumni have earned MFAs from institutions such as Yale University, Columbia, Temple, Vermont College of Fine Arts, and Hollins University—often following their time in residence with us. They are performing on Broadway, dancing with national and international companies, and creating original work across the country. Many have received ArtSpark Grants, Louisiana Division of the Arts funding, and other support for projects launched at Basin Arts. Others serve as educators in the Lafayette Parish School System, youth programs, employees at Stuller, and as professors within the UL Lafayette College of the Arts. Visual artists affiliated with Basin Arts have exhibited their work at the Acadiana Center for the Arts, the Hilliard Museum, and in galleries and museums nationwide.
