Join D'Frantz Smart, League Of Their Own, and Sisters in Cinema as we celebrate Black women in basketball as we commemorate the 30th anniversary of the WNBA and celebrate the 2026 All-Star Weekend hosted by the City of Chicago. During the event we will be screening Queen of Basketball (2021) directed by Ben Proudfoot and Twice As Nice (1989) directed by Jessie Maple.

The event will take place at the Sisters in Cinema Media Arts Center at 2310 E 75th St Chicago, IL 60649

This event is free and open to the general public. Theatre Seats are first come first serve.

About D'Frantz Smart

D'Frantz Smart is a data scientist, community organizer, and event producer focused on creating events and experiences across film, tech, sports, and food. As the lead of Party Noire, or even as the homie doing all the Black bike community rides. While all of those things are part of D'Frantz identity, the reality is D'Frantz spend more time considering food and food systems and the structural injustices and oppression within the system. D'Frantz thinks about how revolutionary it would be for all people to have access to food that is nourishing and grown locally without exploitative labor and what it'd be like to have access to free food. How would or could it change people to encounter food that's delicious, that is a reminder of home, or even food that can sustain a fight against all that tries to destroy us?

Through curated weekly “meet-ups” and events, women come together participating in recreational sport activities to create a bond. Founded by filmmaker and educator Dr. Yvonne Welbon, Sisters in Cinema is a Chicago-based nonprofit organization committed to supporting and celebrating Black women, girls, and gender-expansive media makers. The Sisters in Cinema Media Arts Center in South Shore serves as a space for creativity, intergenerational learning, wellness, and community-led transformation.
