BAYCAT is moving!

Why?

After 20+ years at our Dogpatch headquarters, BAYCAT recently came to a hard decision during our multiyear lease renewal earlier this summer. While we anticipated an increase due to rising commercial rental rates in Dogpatch, we found we cannot cannot afford the increased rent expense without a major impact on our ability to deliver our current programs. So, it's time to say goodbye to our long-time neighborhood home in District 10.

Where?

We have now signed a lease at a lovely space at 13th & Mission--at the intersection of SOMA and the Mission--with an anticipated $80k+ cost savings annually against the rental increase under consideration at our current space. While the space is smaller than our current one, its location 3 blocks north of 16th St. Mission BART will significantly increase transit accessibility for young people and professionals in BAYCAT programs, which has been an ongoing challenge participants have cited over the years.

We also hope to optimize our facilities for video production work, based on current technical specifications and updates since we first opened at AIC, both in our programs and our professional production studio. While the new space will be less loft-style, open-concept, its more structured space allocation will be better suited to video production and post-production work happening concurrently with our daily office activities.

What Now?

We have made the decision to move after two decades of residency in Dogpatch, with a long-term expense savings upside – and that’s going to take an immediate investment in money and resources to make the move happen on a fixed timeline. In the next two months, we will need to cover expenses like movers and a security deposit on our new space, while also, of course, paying that increased rent ($5k!) a month through September.
