Help Bring South Africa’s Young Voices to Stellenbosch

From 3–10 January 2027, Bel Canto Boot Camp in partnership with the Conservatorium of Stellenbosch University and Mandela Bay Opera will present the inaugural South African Vocal Training Institute: an intensive week of training for promising young classical singers from across the country.

During a national talent search in August 2026, Derrick Goff and Rachelle Jonck hoped to identify 12–15 participants. Instead, they encountered 25 exceptional singers at 8 universities, along with enthusiastic learners and teachers from Empangeni High School in KwaZulu-Natal and Sinenjongo High School in Cape Town. We want to offer this opportunity to every deserving young musician, regardless of financial circumstances.

Full participant bursaries
Accommodation and essential travel support
An expanded faculty of South African and international artists
Intensive training in the skills of unamplified classical singing
Opportunities for high-school learners and teachers
A public concert on 9 January to celebrate the hard work of these exceptional young singers
