This September, stand in the gaps for blood cancer patients and their families.

“You have blood cancer.” Nearly 6,000 Michigan patients will hear these words this year and start a journey that carries significant weight medically, financially, and emotionally.

Thanks to our generous community of supporters, The Blood Cancer Foundation of Michigan (BCFM) stands in the gaps — emotional, financial, and social — for patients facing blood cancer and their families. Our team of Patient Support Specialists provides personalized, compassionate support throughout treatment and beyond for patients and their families, and our entire BCFM team is working to achieve the day when no blood cancer patient in Michigan walks alone.

To help us get there, we invite you to contribute to and/or join our monthlong fundraising effort during Blood Cancer Awareness Month from September 1 through 30.

Together with community members, corporate partners, volunteers, patients, and their families, our goal is to raise $40,000 to fund immediate patient needs — emotional support sessions, gas to travel to and from appointments and treatments, monthly utility bill coverage, and more — across the state of Michigan.

About The Blood Cancer Foundation of Michigan

In 1952, Harry and Sylvia Brown were still mourning the loss of their young daughter who died of leukemia four years before. The reality of her illness was devastating. Even more leveling was struggling through their uncertainty, anxiety, and worry without support or guidance. In bonding with other families who had also lost a child to blood cancer, the Browns vowed that no one else would have to walk that road alone and founded Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan (CLF) in their daughter’s memory.

In 2020, CLF began delivering services under the new name The Blood Cancer Foundation of Michigan (BCFM) — a name that reflects our broader mission and focus, which is to support any patient or family member in Michigan affected by any type of blood cancer or precancerous blood condition, including many types of leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and other blood-related diseases. In fact, BCFM offers support for nearly 200 diseases in the blood cancer family.
