At the Black Community of Portland, our dedication to empowering our community through direct and impactful service never wavers. With a critical role under our contract through the Joint Office of Homeless Services, we invite you to join us as a monthly donor. This sustained support is crucial to maintain and expand our services for individuals and families grappling with homelessness.

Impact Through Numbers: In 2024 alone, we helped 54 community members secure, maintain, or find safer housing. Despite over 100 community requests for assistance last year, through referrals and direct outreach, our resources were stretched. Already in 2025, we’ve provided rental assistance to 7 community members, with 5 receiving ongoing support until April. Just $9,500 can move a family into a home and cover their rental assistance for up to 12 months, depending on income and Area Median Income levels in Multnomah County.

Our Ujamaa Enrichment Program, focusing on Rapid Rehousing and Permanent Supportive Housing, is crucial for our most vulnerable populations, including elderly Black residents and homeless Black veterans. Monthly donations help us ensure consistent and impactful support to these groups, allowing us to plan and expand essential services efficiently.

In 2025, we are also empowering financial independence through partnerships like with Clackamas County Bank for financial literacy, set to begin in March, and the development of the community lead initiative, Black Wealth Builder Club. Additionally, our Rent Well classes have already graduated 10 community members this year, connecting them with Oregon’s landlord guarantee fund.
