Beyond Us & Them resources vulnerable and system-impacted populations by teaching skills and practices that build resilience, reweave the torn social fabric and create community cohesion. We've launched our award-winning prison program in 29 California prisons, contributing to a shift in culture within prisons and jails, while equipping participants with tools for successful reentry into society.

We got our start in schools...

and our 2024 partnership with Fortune School of Education brought about a full circle moment for us. Fortune staff and students have witnessed the emergence of more positive school culture, deeper engagement, a marked decrease in school fights and unbridled enthusiasm for what have become known as the "community circles." We launched the Los Angeles Reentry Collaborative to help reduce recidivism in Los Angeles.

Our work fosters social connection, compassion and wellbeing in under-resourced populations. Our vibrant LA Reentry Collaborative is home to providers, formerly incarcerated individuals and over 200 organizations committed to learning, growing and rebuilding together. We support the reentry community in myriad ways, including special events, workshops on topics like Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and Ending Community Violence, and gatherings that reinforce healthy habits and skills for successful reintegration.

Healing throughout the social justice ecosystem

After extensive work in schools and with system-impacted individuals, our organization has expanded its focus to address the broader social justice ecosystem, including first responders and police officers. Recent peer-reviewed scientific research on the efficacy of our Peace Officer Wellness Empathy & Resilience (POWER) program demonstrates that our training for officers improves autonomic health, mindfulness and social connection, while also strengthening relationships, enabling first responders to meet the communities they serve with greater compassion and insight.
