A little about us: BFC was founded in 1920 to ensure that children were cared for in families, rather than in orphanages, where our founders believed they were most likely to get the love and support they needed to thrive. Today we hold fast to that belief and continue this important work by mobilizing the community and providing trauma-informed care.

We make sure children are cared for in a family setting through our two key service areas: Family Strengthening (Safe Families for Children® & Therapeutic Family Services) and Treatment Foster Care.

A message from our Executive Director:

Dear Friends,

As we approach the end of the year, we want to take a moment to share with you the many changes that have occurred at Building Families for Children. We underwent a strategic planning process, experienced a change in leadership, and recently moved into a new office space not far from our former location in Columbia. With new Strategic Initiatives, a new Executive Director, and a beautiful new space to do our work, we are excited about what this next chapter holds!

Our mission at Building Families for Children leads us to help Maryland’s most vulnerable children and families. We want to see them thrive. We help by providing trauma-focused supportive services with Christ-like love and compassion. We remind ourselves of this often; that we do our work with Christ-like love and compassion. We know that as we consider the compassion God has shown to us, we are asked to respond with compassion to those around us.

“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Ephesians 4:32.
