Big Drive: Honoring Castle Rock's Western Roots in Modern Times

A once-in-a-generation public art project is coming to Castle Rock.

As Castle Rock prepares to celebrate America's 250th anniversary and Colorado's 150th anniversary of statehood in 2026, our community has an opportunity to create a lasting landmark that honors our heritage while inspiring future generations.

Big Drive will feature three monumental steel sculptures—a bull, cow, and calf—created by nationally recognized artists Don Kennell and Lisa Adler of DKLA Design. Installed at Rock Park Open Space, the community's namesake and the starting point of the annual Cattle Drive, the artwork celebrates the ranching heritage, western spirit, and enduring character that helped shape Castle Rock.

More than a public art installation, Big Drive will become a gathering place, a destination, and a lasting symbol of community pride. Residents and visitors will experience the sculptures year-round as part of one of Castle Rock's most iconic and meaningful places.
