We’re celebrating our 5th birthday, and we’re inviting you to be part of it!

Join Girls in Gear for a community bike day celebrating five years of confidence-building, friendship, and joyful riding together - featuring 1-, 5-, 10-, and 15-mile marshaled routes, as well as kid-free and adaptive rides with Gold Medal Paralympian Allysa Seely.

We welcome riders of all ages, abilities, and wheel types - balance bikes, tricycles, two-wheels, and everything in between. Families are encouraged to join the celebration to ride or cheer everyone on!

7:30 AM - Kid-free ride with Gold Medal Paralympian, Allysa Seely

Join Gold Medal Paralympian Allysa Seely for an exclusive, kid-free ride designed for adult cyclists. Learn more about Girls in Gear, take a picture with Allysa, and enjoy a welcoming, no-drop ride on the trail.

9:00 AM – Arrival, check-in & bike decorating

Kick off the day with safety checks, music, and creative fun! Riders can decorate bikes and helmets, get face paint or temporary tattoos, and meet their Bike Buddy.

9:30 AM - All-abilities ride with Gold Medal Paralympian, Allysa Seely

Join us for an inclusive ride designed specifically for adaptive cyclists and riders of all ability levels.

10:00 AM – 15-mile ride departs

For experienced riders ready for a longer group adventure. Includes rest and water stations at the 5-mile, 7.5-mile, and 2.5-mile marks.

10:30 AM – 10-mile ride departs

A social, all-levels route, perfect for building stamina and having fun along the way.

11:00 AM – 5-mile ride departs

A relaxed, family-friendly ride ideal for newer or younger riders.

11:15 AM – 1-mile mini mile departs

A relaxed, all-abilities ride ideal for balance bikes, tricycles, and our newest riders.

Ride Details

Each ride will be marshalled by Girls in Gear Ride Leaders and move at a pace appropriate for all ages and abilities - no rider will be dropped or left behind. All rides will depart from and return to the Anacostia Skate Pavilion and take place exclusively on the scenic Anacostia Riverwalk Trail. For the 15, 10, and 5-mile distances, riders must be comfortable riding on two wheels. We have a mini-mile and balance bike course for newer riders.

Every riding participant needs a Bike Buddy - an adult or experienced rider age 16+ who will complete the entire route alongside them. If your family needs a Bike Buddy, please email info@girlsingear.org and our program team will match you before your ride.

Pricing & Registration

At Girls in Gear, we believe every girl deserves the chance to ride - no matter her experience, background, or ability. Your registration fee helps us cover the cost of coaching, supplies, snacks, and program materials so we can keep our rides safe, fun, and accessible for all.

Open to anyone joining the fun - whether you’re riding alongside a participant, cheering from the sidelines, or pedaling for the first time with us.

New to Girls in Gear? Not a past participant? No problem! Kids of all ages and abilities are welcome. Just register at the Community Member rate, and we’ll see you at the start line! If cost is a barrier, please reach out to info@girlsingear.org - we never want finances to keep a girl from riding.
