**YOU'RE INVITED TO OUR SEVENTH 🌷PERENNIAL 🌷 BIKE-A-THON!**

Join us for the seventh annual Bike-a-Thon! This event brings together community members to celebrate bike joy and fundraise for Cycles' transit justice and youth empowerment programs in Oakland and across the East Bay. This year, our goal is to raise $30,000 for the Bikery, to make sure the only community bike shop in the flatlands of East Oakland can blossom through the coming year.

Our Story

The Bikery is a vital resource that ensures our community can get on and stay on bikes. 18 years ago, we planted our seeds in the San Antonio District, a multicultural working class community. Many of our patrons are low-income people of color who rely on bikes due to lack of access to cars and reliable transit infrastructure.

In addition to being a vital neighborhood resource, the Bikery germinates many of our educational programs, including:

Upcycle, our bike safety education and earn-a-bike program for low income adults
Mariposx, our dedicated open shop hours and group ride series for people who are women, queer, trans, and femmes
High school internships

Since opening in 2009, the Bikery has struggled to survive through changes in the bike industry, break-ins, theft, and funding cuts. We refuse to shrivel up and wilt! Through these challenges, we are determined to unfurl our petals and continue offering affordable and accessible bikes, parts, and repairs to our community.

About Us

Cycles of Change was founded in 1998 in the basement of Roosevelt Middle School as an afterschool bicycle club that included after-school and weekend riding, mechanics, and community earn-a-bike program. This first Bike Club emerged in partnership with community groups dedicated to reversing the root causes of youth violence in East Oakland.

As our program grew in popularity, we expanded to offer Drive Your Bike, our countywide in-school bicycle safety programming and Upcycle, our earn-a-bike program for low income adults. In 2009, we opened The Bikery, which remains the only full-service bike shop in the flatlands of East Oakland to this day. The Bikery offers sliding-scale and pro-bono bikes and repairs, facilitates high school internships, and is a hub for local youth to socialize and learn bike mechanics. The Bikery is home to Mariposx, our dedicated open shop hours and group rides for folks who are women, queer, trans, and femme.
