Bipana was burned in an open kitchen fire at the age of five, and she lost her right arm from below the elbow as well as her right ear; she also has significant facial scarring. She spent a few years in and out of the Burn Center at Bir Hospital while being cared for by a Nepali family. During that time, as her body grew, her facial and body scar tissue became very tight, and the scarring around her mouth gave her limited movement.

Bipana came to Ama Ghar in 2023 at the age of 13, and we started a regular schedule of treatment at Kirtipur Burn Hospital. She has regular laser treatments on her scars and also has at-home therapy to soften the tissue on her face. She was also fitted with a stationary prosthesis on her arm and hand.

But she needs more treatments: Burn specialists are starting the reconstruction of her right ear and she needs two more surgeries. In addition, there are lab, hospital, medicine, and transportation costs. We also hope to get her a new prosthesis that gives her at least elbow mobility.

We received a generous $2,500 grant from the Emmett R. Quady Foundation that we hope to match so that we can provide Bipana with the medical treatment she needs to fix her remaining burn scars and give her mobility in her arm.

Bipana is a very self-sufficient and confident young lady with a radiant smile. After only two weeks at Ama Ghar, she took part in a school program and sang a solo. She has a beautiful voice and is practicing for a talent show. She is doing well in school and is thriving at Ama Ghar.
