Greetings All,

My name is Ashanti, and I am the founder of The Black Yard Farm Collective in Argyle, NY. The Black Yard Farm is a Black centered diversified farm project focused on providing high quality affordable food and the space and opportunity for black folks and people of color to reconnect with nature, and learn about agriculture on a rural scale.

I am looking to raise $50,000 towards operating capital for this growing season. I am asking for donations of $34 from 1,475 community members and supporters. It is a bit time sensitive as the season has already begun but the funding will ensure I have the ability to produce a larger fall/winter harvest and compensate for spring/summer shortfalls caused by labor shortages.

Because the business is severely understaffed our summer production has taken a hard hit, and the income coming in isn't sufficient to cover the necessities to continue operating. However, with a couple more hands on deck, I’ll be able to increase production and sales. This will help increase and spread out the farm labor and provide employees with a salary that covers the living wage in this county(~$24/hr). Being able to meet my projections for this season is crucial in securing funding to make the purchase of the farm next spring.

This is the last year of my five year lease on this land and I have a guaranteed price, and first opportunity to purchase and become owner of this property next spring. With the help of the community, I’m confident I will get there.

This journey in farming and towards land ownership has not been easy but I am still here, finding strength to be resilient and persevering. I know with this boost from my beloved community, I’ll be able to realize the goals that I’ve been building towards over the last five years in continuing the efforts of creating an alternative to our current food systems that truly supports us all. I’ve always been an advocate of mutual aid as it has been a foundational component in the creation of the farm and I'm reaching out to you to support my efforts.

Again, I’m asking for 1,475 contributions of just $34, but any amount folks can contribute will be helpful. I know that times are tough financially for a lot of us so if you have extra to spare, I’ll deeply appreciate it, and if it’s not in your capacity to contribute, sharing this fundraiser with folks you know who may have it will be helpful and equally appreciated!
