In 2022, 27 detained persons in Harris County Jail died due to inhumane living conditions, overcrowding, and neglect/violence at the hands of jail guards. So far, in 2023, there have been 11 deaths. These are just a few existential threats our clients have to face, along with others in our criminal legal system. A little over 8,100 people in the Harris County Jail, 75% of the jail population, have not been found guilty of the crime they are accused of. We're gathering on April 25th at 3:30 pm at Restoring Justice to fight to end mass incarceration here in Harris County through freedom and empowerment. There will be music, food, makeovers and resources for clients, and overall health and wellness! Joy is resistance! All families and community welcome to join us!
