Local news needs your support
Like many media outlets, Black Voice News is committed to making health-related news about the Coronavirus (Covid19) crisis free to the public. We are also committed to telling the story in engaging and data informed ways that can help our diverse audience understand the complex ways the virus is impacting us locally, nationally, and globally. But the reality is our ability to continue to deliver trusted reporting during this moment comes with many costs. Despite the economic challenges of Covid19, our team consistently provides the community with reliable and timely news, and we will continue to do that. But we need your help.
The global pandemic has brought the local economy to a near standstill, and advertising along with it. That new financial challenge means Black Voice News must find new ways to provide important local news and information as a public service during this unprecedented crisis. You read our publication because you understand our commitment to the community. We value you as a neighbor and we will continue to demonstrate that commitment to you by delivering comprehensive coverage until this crisis is over and beyond.
Our community deserves reporting that investigates all the impacts of the current health crisis and we will do so in the coming months and years by doing a deep dive into Covid19’s broad impact. We will use the opportunity to engage with the topic from a point of view highlighting how economic inequality and systemic racism are partly causing the disproportionate health impacts we are seeing with Covid19 for Black people. Tackling the story from this angle is important because Covid-19 is not simply a health issue. The jobs we have, the places we live, and the food our communities have access to, are all factors affecting how minority populations are being impacted by the virus.
Many of you already subscribe to our weekly newsletter and read Black Voice News for this type of reporting, and for that, we are grateful. But we are now also asking subscribers and non-subscribers to consider making tax-deductible donations earmarked for our coverage of this ongoing health crisis.
If you believe local, trusted information is critical, especially during these unsettling times, please donate to help keep us on the job. Contributions to this fund will help pay for news resources to cover the impact of the virus on our local communities, the disproportionate effects on Black and Brown people, information on the trend in positive cases, testing sites, business closures (and, of course, re-openings) and the impact to our children, students, and elders during the ‘Stay at home’ order.
Thank you for your support of Black Voice News during this critical time!
