Our offer was accepted!

It's time for one of many exciting announcements - after a few offers went back and forth on our property, our building is now under contract for a price that we can afford to proceed at.

Our due diligence begins today!

We've got 2 months on the clock to secure lending and do all the paperwork we need to do to, and 45 days of that to get all of the assorted inspections and information we need to proceed.

The cool thing is that this might proceed even faster than planned - since the loan coming through is critical to this plan working out, we've been talking to our lender all month and getting them all the information they ask for. So, if all of the inspections and paperwork things also proceed quickly, we might be able to close early!

Even if things take the "usual" amount of time, though, closing will be at the end of April and then we begin to move in May.

We couldn't do anything without your support and excitement. Thank you all for sharing our updates with others and supporting our cause! Keep spreading the word!

Let's talk future Bloop exhibits!

Y'all, the fundraiser is at 69% (very nice!) and it is literally thanks to all of you.

The 80% mark is when we have enough to cover a down payment and all the fees associated with property sales and put an offer in on the building. After fundraising fees and everything else, that basically means we need about $30K. Don't look at it like a single amount! We need a thousand people who will give us 30 bucks. Now it doesn't seem so bad, right? On top of that, Givebutter will look at the top performing campaigns and select five to receive $5K, so if you know a friend who would donate even a little bit, that could give us a chance at a much bigger pot. Please recommend us! If you're in the US, your donation will get you an automatic tax receipt (if you're getting this email, you've already seen how that works) and everything is going towards something great. So what kind of great stuff do we have in store? How about a teaser....

A very serious computer music and chiptune exhibit is in the works. We have several early significant devices, with a few one-of-a-kinds. There will also be a bunch of devices from their hey-day, as well as current ones. In true Bloop style, we're planning for an interactive, operational display, so you'll be able to play all kinds of cool sounds and songs there!

"Art's Typing Games" - this is an exhibit inspired by a gentleman (you'll never guess his name!) who visited the museum and told me he didn't want to go too deep playing games, and regaled a tale of discovering while volunteering for the library system in his retirement that he had adult ADHD. Anyway, even though he was avoidant of games, he was very keen to play a game called Type Attack. We located a copy and decided to put it with our other typing games like Mario Teaches Typing and Typing of the Dead, which, although widely accepted as such, apparently we have incorrectly been pointing to as "peak typing game". To explain why, we accidentally acquired over 100 typing games, and apparently we're still missing a whole bunch - help! You'll be able to play all of our typing games, of course; This exhibit is sure to feature one of our favorite rabbit holes yet.

Did we say rabbit holes? The only one that might give the typing games a run for their money is an upcoming Religious Games exhibit. We're partnering with Dr. Vivian Gonzalez who catalogued and classified over 1600 religious games in an incredible dissertation spanning hundreds of pages. We've been able to make a few minor additions to her list, but the true power of the Bloop will be uncovering cool, unsung stories and, well, singing their praises (religion joke?). There are definitely already two stories to tell, not to mention the ways in which these exhibits come together are stories unto themselves!

Bonus round! We've been assembling a bunch of cool music and rhythm games! Maybe we'll put them next to the religious games, because there are Christian versions of Guitar Hero, Karaoke Revolution, Rock Band, and DDR! 🤯

We'll be sending out one more email for Giving Tuesday in a few days. Want to keep this train going? A few ways you can help:

  • If you know anyone who'd dig these exhibits, please share this message!
  • If you have anything that should go in these exhibits, get in touch!
  • If you've got a few extra bucks, please consider increasing your donation.
  • If you just donated, don't forget to check if someone like benevity will match it through your workplace!

Thank you, genuinely, for your support. Catch you again soon!
