That's correct!
On August 1st at 4 pm, Watauga Community Housing Trust officially purchased its first piece of property after three months of fundraising.
The project came together with support from several large contributions and over sixty community members making smaller donations. Here is how the funding for this project ended up:
$10,983 (Community Donations/Members)
$10,000 (Town of Boone)
$10,000 (Watauga County Economic Development Commission)
$10,000 (Triangle Community Foundation)
$5,000 (Rumple Presbyterian Church)
$5,000 (St. Mary of the Hills Church)
$1,500 donation (Boone United Methodist)
+ a $10,000 0% interest private loan
We are so thankful for everyone who came together to make this possible. We got so close to our deadline, absolutely every donation was crucial to making sure the home was acquired and our closing costs were covered. No one person or source had to carry the whole weight of this project, yet none of us could have done it without everyone else pitching in. We will be sending our donor thank yous and receipts over the next two weeks, and announcing an event to celebrate all of our supporters for this first phase as soon as we can organize one.
We are very excited to have reached this milestone, but the project is not done! We have now entered Phase 2 of the work to make this a permanent affordable home, and will be focused on fundraising our repair costs and doing outreach to find a buyer from within the Junulaska community.

We are excited to announce our first large community supporter! Rumple Presbyterian has agreed to match donations to the First Home Fund for the next $5,000!
Your donation will be matched dollar for dollar by the church's contribution. WCHT thanks Rumple for stepping forward to help launch with this gift.
This includes membership signups! Your contribution to the First Home Fund makes you a WCHT member, and we invite all Wataugans to help us grow the coalition we're creating.
Support our work with a $25/year membership, or let us know if you want to get involved. We have a lot of fun coming together as community members to build this organization, and would love to have you on board!

We're scheduling more presentations, community outreach, and submitting our first grant for $25,000 right now but still need your help to get to $55,000 by the end of next month.
