In June 2027, students from Boise High School are traveling to Peru with Vivid Roots and Somos Impact Travel. In the Sacred Valley, near Ollantaytambo, they will spend a day working alongside Valle Sagrado Verde (VSV), a local organization restoring Andean ecosystems and protecting communities from wildfire.

About Valle Sagrado Verde

VSV works with community forest brigades across the Cusco region. Their work includes ecological pruning, reforestation, fire prevention, and monitoring how native forests regenerate. They use Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR), a low-cost method that helps existing trees and root systems grow back stronger. It is practical, community-led conservation that protects the land and the families who depend on it.

What our students will do

Guided by local experts, students will hike from Ollantaytambo into the surrounding communities and get their hands dirty with pruning and restoration work. Along the way they will learn about the history of the valley, the ecology of the Andes, and why fire prevention matters so much here.

Why we’re fundraising

Every dollar raised supports VSV’s conservation programs and the community brigades who carry out this work in the field all year long, long after our group heads home.

Our goal

Each student is aiming to raise $250, for a school goal of $4,000. Any amount helps: $25, $50, or $100 makes a real difference to a small, grassroots team.

Thank you for supporting our students and the people protecting the Sacred Valley!
