Our fight to stop learning loss because of Covid-19:
Underserved teens are recovering from learning losses due to Covid at a much slower rate than their elementary school peers. In fact, adolescents aren’t expected to fully recover from those losses for another five or more years. Through our Literacy Events, Lit Centers and Lit Boxes, our programming combats the detrimental effects on under-resourced communities caused by Covid.
Access to Books, not Book Bans:
Today, books in the US are under profound attack. They are disappearing from library shelves, and being decreed off limits by school boards, legislators, and more. From our inception, The Book Truck has been proudly promoting and distributing high-quality, high-interest books that celebrate and spotlight a diversity of voices, especially those from the LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities. Our programming works to ensure these diverse voices will never be silenced.
How we know our programs works:
Our programming doubles and triples the number of teens reading in underserved communities, where dropout rates can be as high as 50%.
Why it's important:
Higher literacy rates mean lower rates of teen pregnancy, incarceration, and poverty.
You can shape the future of teens in these communities by supporting our Read-a-thon!!
