Beyond the Ribbon Foundation

Hope & Healing in the Bighorn Basin

Beyond the Ribbon Foundation began as Paint the Town Pink, with a mission that was deeply personal to its founders, Brenda Nelson and Stacey Atkinson.

As breast cancer survivors themselves, Brenda and Stacey know firsthand what it is like to hear the words “you have cancer” and everything that follows. They understand the fear, uncertainty, difficult days and emotions that can come with a diagnosis. They also know how much it means to have people beside you who care, pray for you, encourage you and remind you that you are not walking through it alone.

Paint the Town Pink originally focused on helping people in the community who were going through breast cancer, just as Brenda and Stacey had.

In November 2023, Paint the Town Pink officially became a For Public Benefit Nonprofit, allowing the organization to continue building upon that mission and reach more people in need.

And then something incredible happened.

The community showed up.

The support from individuals, families, local businesses, donors and volunteers throughout the Bighorn Basin allowed the organization to do more than originally imagined. As that support grew, so did the ability to help people facing cancers other than breast cancer.

In January 2025, a Board of Directors was formed, bringing together a group of people who shared the same heart for helping local cancer patients and their families.

By February 2025, the mission had grown beyond where it began. The organization was no longer only helping those affected by breast cancer. It was beginning to reach people facing many different types of cancer.

It was time for the name to grow with the mission.

Paint the Town Pink became Beyond the Ribbon Foundation.

The name represents the heart of what the Foundation strives to do.

There are many different colors of cancer ribbons, each representing different types of cancer. But Beyond the Ribbon looks past the color of the ribbon to see the person behind it.

A mom. A dad. A husband or wife. A grandparent. A child. A friend. A coworker. A neighbor.

Cancer may become part of someone's story, but it does not define who they are.

Today, Beyond the Ribbon Foundation supports people throughout the Bighorn Basin who are facing all types of cancer.

And that support goes beyond financial assistance.

The Foundation provides creature comforts, prayer, emotional support, encouragement and assistance with individual needs throughout the cancer journey.

Sometimes that means providing something to make long days of treatment a little more comfortable. Sometimes it means helping ease an unexpected financial burden. Sometimes it is a listening ear, a prayer, a little encouragement or simply having someone there who understands.

Above all, Beyond the Ribbon is here to walk beside you.

Cancer affects so much more than the person receiving treatment. It can affect families, relationships, finances, work and everyday life. Beyond the Ribbon's hope is to make that journey a little easier and to make sure those facing cancer in the Bighorn Basin know they have people in their corner.

Boots & Blooms Cancer Benefit Dinner & Auction

The Boots & Blooms Cancer Benefit Dinner & Auction is another chapter in the Foundation's story.

It is an opportunity for the Bighorn Basin to come together for an evening of food, fellowship, stories and giving, all with one shared purpose: supporting local cancer warriors and their families.

Every ticket purchased, auction item donated, sponsorship given and monetary contribution helps Beyond the Ribbon continue providing support right here at home.

What began with two breast cancer survivors wanting to help others walking a road they understood has grown because an incredible community believed in their mission and stood beside them.

Because of that support, Paint the Town Pink grew into Beyond the Ribbon Foundation—and a mission that once focused on one color of ribbon can now reach people represented by every color.

The Foundation could not do this without the generosity and compassion of the Bighorn Basin community.

Together, we can continue providing comfort, prayer, encouragement, assistance and hope to our neighbors when they need it most.

No matter the color of the ribbon, you don't have to walk this road alone.
