The TAG Association and the Boston Desegregation & Busing Initiative invite you to invest in community building and healing by bringing to life an important part of Boston's history.

THE BOSTON DESEGREGATION MOBILE MUSEUM

Focusing on the 1974 Boston Desegregation decision, the mobile museum capitalizes on the universal and poignant symbol of school desegregation, a school bus, to promote education, restorative justice and historic preservation. This museum will foster community healing and understanding to create a more equitable future throughout the Greater Boston area for locals and visitors. The mobile museum will contain multiple micro exhibits as well as simulations, recreating the experience of children riding to and from school.

With the generous support of Mr Cesar Ruiz, we have secured a school bus. We are seeking $200,000 to bring this vision to fruition. Donations are 100% tax deductible.

WHY A MOBILE MUSEUM & WHY NOW?

Boston residents deserve to learn and understand our history with desegregation and its impact on our city and country. Currently, Boston lacks a central and permanent location that interprets its Civil Rights history, including desegregation. Additionally, Boston Public Schools currently does not have a district wide curriculum on Boston history. As a consequence thousands of students have left our schools without understanding the city’s role in the Civil Rights struggle and the impact of desegregation on our schools and communities. It is time to change this.

Interpretive / mobile museums have been and continue to be profoundly impactful.

LONG TERM VISION

A Boston with a permanent interpretive center located in the city for its Civil Rights history with the mobile museum being its on-the-road ambassador. With a focus on Boston school children, the mobile interpretive museum will fill a gap in today’s educational curricula, while promoting racial reconciliation and community building across Greater Boston. An intergenerational staff representative of the Bostonc community, including those who lived through deseg will welcome and learn with guests and residents alike.
