Goal: $20,000 | Project: On-Site Manager Housing at Magical Creatures Sanctuary

At Magical Creatures Sanctuary, we believe every life is worth protecting—from our special needs animals with prosthetics, to our free roaming cows rescued from slaughter, to our happy pigs who now roam free under our care. We are a nonprofit farmed animal rescue dedicated to providing lifelong sanctuary to animals who’ve endured neglect, abuse, or abandonment.

But now, we need your help to care even better for the animals who depend on us.

🏡 Why We Need Manager Housing

The heart of any sanctuary is its people. And here, our on-site volunteers are not just staff—they’re family. They respond to emergencies, provide around-the-clock care, and ensure every animal gets the love and attention they deserve. For the last five years, our animal-care volunteers have shared an off grid yurt, but it is not big enough to house everyone.

Currently, we are in need of expanding our manager team. As a fully volunteer-run organization on a remote island, we cannot operate without dedicated management to ensure efficient and effective operations. We need managers to stay for longer amounts of time in order to ensure continuity and stability, thus needing their own private housing. Managers not only ensure an educational and enriching experience for our animal care interns, but they operate day-and-night, responding quickly to after-hours needs like:

Medical emergencies and injuries
Nighttime routines
Severe weather issues
Off-grid challenges (water, solar, etc)
Last minute staffing needs

By building a sustainable living space on sanctuary grounds, namely Manager Village, we can ensure 24/7 coverage for our most vulnerable residents—and provide our managers with a safe, stable home close to the animals they’ve devoted their everything to.

$3,000 – A communal kitchen, living space, and shower
$2,000 – Volunteer bathroom to replace our porta potty
$1,000 – Installation, furnishings, finishing touches

Magical Creatures Sanctuary is a 501(c)3 nonprofit animal rescue and sanctuary located on the beautiful Hamakua Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii.

Our Sanctuary is founded on a profound compassion for all animals, focusing on those who have experienced uncommon hardships. We do not keep livestock or breed stock, nor do we employ working animals. Whether horse, cow, pig, sheep, goat, dog, cat, or chicken, a Magical Creatures of Hamakua resident just needed a little help living out their best lives.

For us, the animals in our care are all equal with their own unique needs. We aim to provide the most loving safe haven possible for these truly special beings.
