Bridging Gaps: Housing Access & Community Support

Every day, Austin Mutual Aid meets people where they are.

Some are sleeping outside. Some are living in vehicles. Some are one missed paycheck away from losing their home. Many are trying to navigate housing systems that feel confusing, overwhelming, and impossible to access without support.

Through our Bridging Gaps initiative, Austin Mutual Aid helps community members understand and navigate housing opportunities while connecting them to the resources they need to move toward stability.

This work includes:

• Housing navigation and advocacy
• Help obtaining IDs and important documents
• Coordinated Entry and housing application support
• Transportation assistance
• Housing education workshops and skill-shares
• Meals, water, and basic needs support
• Peer-led guidance from people with lived experience

In May alone, Austin Mutual Aid reached more than 550 community members through outreach, housing support, meal distribution, advocacy, and resource navigation.

We believe homelessness is a community issue first and a barrier issue second. When people have someone walking beside them, housing becomes more accessible, systems become easier to navigate, and stability becomes possible.

Austin Mutual Aid is a lived-experience-led nonprofit supported by a community network of more than 30,000 members across Central Texas.
