The Great Elephant Migration is headed to Livermore, CA - the herd's only stop on the West Coast in 2026 and its first time in the San Francisco Bay Area! 30 life-size elephant sculptures are due to arrive in Downtown Livermore on October 10th.

About The Exhibit

The Great Elephant Migration is a global public art and conservation project featuring life-size Asian elephant sculptures. The herd's journey across America serves as a poignant metaphor for human-wildlife coexistence, raising millions to fund conservation efforts that protect migratory animals.

The sculptures are entirely woven from Lantana Camara, an aggressive invasive weed that is choking forest floors and pushing animals out of their natural habitats. By harvesting this weed to build the herd, the artisans directly help restore native habitats for the elephants. Each of the sculptures is a precise replica of a living, breathing wild elephant in India. The elephants were carefully crafted by The Coexistence Collective, a community of 200 Indigenous artisans from the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve in South India.

The Journey

The herd has previously traveled across the United States, stopping at iconic locations to transform public spaces into symbols of shared habitat and empathy. Thirty elephants from the herd are now on their way to scenic and historic Livermore, CA for a two-month visit from October 10th through December 6th.

The exhibit is free and accessible to all.
