When I was diagnosed with breast cancer in the fall of 2024, my kids had just turned 3 and 5 just the week before I got the call from the doctor. With kids so little, Alex and I knew we'd have to explain to the kids that I'd be sick and unavailable to them at times, but we didn't quite know the best way to approach it.
Then a dear friend told us about the Bright Reads program that sends free books and resources to families facing a parent's cancer diagnosis and treatment. We used those books to explain mommy's cancer in a clear and unintimidating way (we were the intimidated ones!).
Since then, I've recommended the Bright Reads Program and other BSN resources to other survivor moms I've met. It is a beautiful program and I invite you to help support it by donating whatever you can. Every dollar helps buy books for families navigating a parent's cancer!
