FEATURED STORY

PLEASE READ THE HEARTFELT LETTER WE RECEIVED FROM MIGUEL'S MOTHER.

Miguel is six years old and has been diagnosed with autism. He has limited language.

His life has been full of challenges; we have faced so much ignorance and  a lack of empathy for Miguel in a world that is supposed to be  “inclusive.”

As his mother, it's heartbreaking to witness people staring, giving us unsolicited advice, and feeling constant rejection when Miguel has a meltdown because of his sensory overload.

I've had to confront and talk to parents, teachers, and classmates because Miguel is always misunderstood.

Miguel has incredible ability in math and visual-spatial skills, and he is developing more and more abilities every day.

My husband and I see his capabilities, intelligence, and strengths, which motivates us every day to keep fighting for him.

Many doctors and teachers want to send him home with loads of medication to numb his symptoms, but we don't want to do that.

Miguel loves nature and animals.

As his parents, we now see life through Miguel’s eyes, and it's a beautiful world.

We have also met incredible people along the way who are willing to fight with us so Miguel has a better life.

A service dog would give him so much peace and tremendously improve his quality of life.

A service dog will help with his anxiety and meltdowns. It will help him sleep better and raise his self-esteem.

When we visited Owen for the first time, and Miguel was around a service dog, Miguel was calm, and we could feel and see his inner peace.

On the car ride back home, he couldn’t stop smiling and saying the word “dog.”

Miguel doesn’t say very much, so this behavior shocked us. Nevertheless, it was a beautiful thing to witness.
