ABOUT THE SHOW
A new folk musical set in the woods of Northern California by Mason Emmert Marlow and Patrick Deane Greeley, Burn is a story of loss, discovery, and the meaning of home.

A WORD FROM THE WRITERS
Many of us hear about wildfires in the news, the latest in an endless torrent of natural disasters that are only getting worse every year. This is how climate change is often viewed in the Northeastern US: important, but theoretical. In creating Burn, we wanted to put a grounded, human face on the tragedy, to make the theoretical real for our communities.

We use the storytelling power of folk music to make these stories feel honest and accessible, giving each character a specific sound to convey their struggles, whether internal or existential. We confront themes of perseverance against tremendous loss and of both the power and cost of community. In digging into these stories and musical ideas, we find ourselves empathizing with the well-meaning villains, the messy heroes, and everyone in between.

We hope you’ll come along with us. Find your place. Accept your burn scars. After all, we’re strongest when we’re together.

USE OF FUNDS
Funds will be used for a developmental work session and invited presentation in New York City on August 23 and will be allocated for:

Participant Compensation (6 actors and 2 writers)
Administrative Costs (Script and score prep and printing, studio rental etc.)

The Manhattan Musical Theatre Lab is a 501(c)(3), tax exempt organization providing Fiscal Sponsorship for this project. All funds raised through this campaign are administered by The Manhattan Musical Theatre Lab Inc. and will be distributed directly to the project and it's participants with oversight from our administrative team.
