American Legion Post 543 is dedicated to making a meaningful difference in the lives of local veterans, their families, and youth throughout our community. Our mission is grounded in service, leadership, and unwavering support for those who have worn the uniform.

Post 543 provides direct assistance to active-duty service members and their families across Eastern North Carolina. Through strong partnerships with local schools and educational institutions, we promote patriotism, citizenship, and leadership development among young people.

Our Post Service Team manages more than 100 cases each year, helping veterans navigate the complexities of the VA system and connecting them with trusted organizations to address life challenges ranging from benefits claims to essential support services. Veterans in need are our primary focus!

In addition, Post 543 proudly maintains an Honor Guard to ensure that honorably discharged veterans receive the Military Honors they have earned at burial or interment — a solemn tribute reflecting our enduring respect and gratitude for their service. Families are very appreciative of these honors.
