In 2010, at the request of more than 100 of Greensboro’s refugees, we formed New Arrivals Institute (NAI) to continue services that had been started by NC’s first resettlement agency. Since then, NAI has served thousands of refugees in Greensboro and across North Carolina. Each service we provide is done using our vision of “a community that welcomes refugees and immigrants and provides them with the tools they need to achieve their goals.”

NAI positively impacts our community by providing essential knowledge and skills that promote successful integration into our community and entry to the workforce. Our approach is intentionally holistic, providing services and opportunities that benefit newly arrived refugees based on their individual needs and supporting the whole family unit. This includes Educational-Programming for children and their families, Summer Youth Enrichment, English and Cultural Orientation classes, Employment Readiness, Translation & Evaluation of educational transcripts, Driver’s Education, and Citizenship Preparedness, all at no cost to the client.

For over a decade, NAI has facilitated easy transportation for new arrivals to access our services. Through partnership with GTCC and GTA, students have had access to free bus tickets and a direct shuttle to and from the downtown bus depot daily, directly to our door. Due to new policies from the federal government, our partnership with GTCC has come to an end, and so, we are now seeking community funding to continue to provide free transportation for students to access all of our services on a daily basis.

NAI serves about 2,000 individuals per year, a $30 donation will provide bus transportation for one refugee client to access all of our services for a month.
